What Are Cream Chargers For?

The whipped cream charger is a steel cylinder or cartridge filled with nitrous oxide (N2O) used as a whipping agent in a whipped cream dispenser/whipper. The narrow end of the charger is covered with a foil, which releases nitrous oxide (N2O) gas when it breaks. This is usually done with a sharp pin in the whipped cream dispenser. The whipped cream charger is a convenient source of gas. Among users, chargers are colloquially called whippits, whippets, nos, nossies or nangs.

What Is A Whipped Cream Dispenser/Whipper?

The whipped cream dispenser is an aluminum or stainless steel product that relies on nitrous oxide (N2O) gas to pressurize the tank to immediately dissolve the gas into the liquid and turn the liquid into whipped cream, mousse, or foam. Using the whipped cream dispenser is twice the amount of whipped cream as the traditional manual whipping method. Most coffee shops including Starbucks use this method to make a delicious whipped cream for coffee or cakes.

How To Use A Whipped Cream Dispenser/Whipper?

STEP 1
Unscrew the top of the whipped cream dispenser and insert the tip. Ensure the tip is screwed onto the end of the head valve. The O-ring or gasket must also be in place on the underside of the head.

STEP 2
Pour in your cream or desired liquids, syrups, sugars or extracts up to the max fill line. Please remember do not to overfill.

STEP 3
Screw in the top evenly and firmly onto the canister taking care to avoid cross-threading. Place 1 whipper cream charger bulb into the charger holder with the smallest end facing upwards and screw it on the head of the dispenser. Gently twist the charger holder onto the head of the whipper until you hear a hiss as the gas starts to be released. Once the gas releases, you can unscrew the charger hold or keep it in place.

STEP 4
Shake the dispenser a few times, and turn it upside down so the nitrous yields with the cream. If the cream is too runny, shake the dispenser a couple of times before repressing the lever.

STEP 5
It’s very important that you clean out your whipped cream dispenser. When the cream charger is empty, discharge any remaining pressure and unscrew the tip and top. Discard the charger and use a small brush to clean out any residue from the nozzle with sudsy warm water.

NOTE: The whipped cream expiration date is the expiration date on the thickening cream itself.
